How to choose

Pick by what hooked you about Alicia's silence. For more from the same author, The Maidens follows a therapist who suspects a professor of murder. For a story about someone who cannot leave her home, try The Woman in the Window. Shutter Island is the oldest and moodiest of the group, set in a 1954 hospital. Gone Girl, The Girl on the Train and Before I Go to Sleep are quick, compelling reads. Verity is the most explicit and disturbing, with sexual content and very dark events, so check content notes first. Several of these hinge on a reveal and work best when you know as little as possible, so stick to the jacket copy.
